But I can’t say that any of it was “bad ” there’s a whole lot of good going on here, and some readers are sure to love it. The cinnamon roll hero was adorable, and I probably would’ve enjoyed this a LOT more if we’d had more of that swoon and less overly descriptive passages and magic. I got bored by the extent of the witchy content (most of the book is focused on that), but kept getting drawn back in by the moments of romance. ![]() The little nuggets of romance were SO good – swoony, sweet, tender. Yes, these are adult characters (31/36), and there is a tiny bit of steam, but it’s so soft, cozy, and found family-oriented that the vibe reads a lot younger. This is the first adult romance by the author, and that could explain why it had such YA vibes. I’ll be generous with my rating, because this wasn’t a good fit for me, but it’ll be just the kind of soft, magical romance that some readers are looking for. ![]() ![]() ![]() I recommend this fun filled adventure mystery book not only to kids of any age but also to adults. It knows as much about the strange extremes of food as Penumbra did about the dark latitudes of the book community. It is a beautiful, small, sweet, quiet book. While my heart broke for Molly throughout the course of this novel, I was frustrated by some of her choices. Patrick's sister, Julia, is one of the worst after the incident. ![]() Molly doesn't get a chance to share her side of the story before Patrick breaks up with her and the town turns against her. Everyone in town knows the book is about Molly, Patrick, and Gabe. Molly's secret comes to life vividly and publicly when her mother uses it to write a best selling novel. She chooses to keep what happened between her and Gabe a secret, but secrets have a way of climbing to the surface to make themselves known. Molly is frustrated with her choice and terrified that Patrick will find out and break up with her. While this gives her beloved coonhound, Bongo, plenty to sniff and explore, Mouse can barely find room to sit down. These really have no bearing on the story, I just get freaked out by dolls. Her Grandmother was a hoarder, never throwing anything out, including an entire room of creepy old dolls. Mouse figures she'll feel good about helping and how bad can it be? Her Dad has had some recent health troubles and wouldn't be able to do it himself. ![]() When Mouse's Father enlists her help cleaning out her recently deceased Grandma's house, she happily agrees. ![]() |
